One thing to know about long-term affairs where there is real love but the APs have decided not to break up their families- you don't talk much about your marriage. It can hurt or feel odd or intrusive. So we tread very lightly there.

My AP and I are both frank about wishing we could wake up together every day and about how much we miss each other in the days and nights we're apart. But we don't speak ill of our spouses to one another.

We were acquaintances for a long time, then friends, and shared a ton about ourselves over the years before the affair. In fact, my AP and I both knew each other better, by the time we admitted our feelings, than anyone we had ever been with romantically (including) our spouses.

There was an increasingly intense period in our friendship - I'd say a year or so- that I see as an EA in hindsight. I had no idea he had romantic feelings during that time. Or I assumed / told myself he didn't because I needed our very supportive friendship and didn't want to screw it up.

At one point I was concerned something was wrong with him- like he was sick- and invited him to tell me if there was something he was worried about saying to me. He interpreted it as a request to fess up that he had feelings for me, and did, and begged me not to be disappointed in him for having those feelings. And I told him I was in the same boat. Our relationship became physical after that. It's been a year and we are extremely close. The friendship is stronger than ever and the physical part is perfect.

We were together today because our spouses are both traveling. No jealousy here. We love what we have and are grateful we can be together without disrupting anyone else's lives.
