I’m shocked that your 12 year old has a device that can send and receive text messages but has to ask you how to delete the text messages he doesn’t want to respond to! I mean really? Also, he should be more careful who he gives his number to.

Ha. Several boys that age in day care had a crush on my DD. She complained that they spent the whole day staring at her. They kept asking for playdates with her. One of them said he was going to marry her when he grew up.

my 13 year old son is either hiding it from me really well or has absolutely no interest at the moment. that said, he seems to be friends with several girls at school. his "crowd" there includes both boys and girls. he says some of the girls talk about boys but claims the boys do not reciprocate.

Yeah, I think some people have different definitions of "crush." My oldest DS is 12 and hasn't admitted to liking any girls yet.

All these women talking about boys crushes.....

I am a middle aged man.

First crush -- real crush -- was at 12, summer between 6th and 7th grade.

It is not "I think she is pretty", but rather, too embarrassed to talk about it. She and I were thrust together by circumstances; we were both staying for a month at our grandmothers. I did not want anyone to know. But we would spend time together. We progressed all the way to holding hands.

They said thing like "larla is so pretty. I want to marry larla" or " when I am a grown up I am going to marry Larla and have 4 kids and live in a boat with her"

As well as always wanting to be partners with Larla, picking flowers for Larla, giving/sharing sweets with Larla.

One of them told Larla he would wait for her to return in high school when she left for the center after 2nd grade.

This was th3 Larla he was in love with from Kindergarten on.

A few boys will start reciprocating in 6th grade. There will be "couples" in MS. My son is 12 and just finished 6th grade. He has a crush but is rather dismissive and thinks the "couples" around him
are silly.

My 10 yo hasn't had a crush that I know of, but he did act as lookout when a pretend wedding was being held on the playground at recess.

My 11 year old claims not to have any crushes, but he tells me about his friends' crushes. There are some girls in his class who text him and he seems pretty excited to text them back. Any by text, I mean a lot of "Hi" "Hi" "Hey there" "Hellllooooo" type messages.

My nephew has been girl crazy and talking about girl friends since preschool. It never stopped as he got older. He was born a ladies man.

My son started thinking girls were no longer terrible when he was 9 then started combing his hair and awkwardly flirting at 10. He's almost 11 and notices girls differently now but does not say he has a crush on anyone specific. The boys talk about who likes who at school all of the time.

In middle school, boys are too immature to even begin to think about real crushes. In late middle and early high school, boys are petrified of girls. So, probably by late 10th grades, boys have started to mature to have a girl crush, but if he tends to hang around jerks, he won’t mature enough for a girl crush til much later.
