I saw that article. Scary stuff. There are issues in Springfield too (where we used to live which is Fairfax County) though not to that extreme.

I am the OP in the Metro thread about this topic. I don’t live in the DC metro area. I haven’t been terribly tuned into the elections in the VA/DC area. But, I do have family and friends in VA with children who don’t attend the most affluent schools in FCPS. So, my post was more a concern for the schools, not the elections.
If you think this was timed for Stewart - blame the WaPo. It was this organization who published the story highlighting the problem.
And, it’s not just “fearful conservatives” who are concerned about the growing MS-13 problem. Read the thread in the metro - plenty of admitted liberals agree it is an issue that needs to be dealt with.

I use DCUM because I like and have vague thoughts about moving there, not because I currently live there. I live in an area that's like a rough part in Washington NW. A little edgy, but not actually too rough.

My kid's grade school had the local police gang expert give a talk, and his talk was pretty alarming. He listed MS13 as a major problem, along with the Bloods, Crips and Latin Kings, and he said that a funeral of a gang leader in my area had attracted 2,000 people.

So, the way Trump approaches this issue is divisive, but the issue is actually an issue.
