For a newborn:

Upstairs: changing table, bassinet (slept here at night and some naps) in master bedroom

main level: large changing pad on couch, swing (slept here for some naps), bouncy seat (slept here for some naps), play mat

Sometimes the bouncy seat would be moved upstairs if we were working around the house.

I am on kid #3 in a three story townhouse. No baby stuff in basement. I change most diapers upstairs in nursery but I do keep a stash of diapers and wipes and a little changing pad from an old diaper bag in the living room. We don't keep a diaper pail downstairs so diaper changes usually involve going back upstairs anyway. We kept a pack n play in the living room for the first six months or so as a place to lay her down where she wouldn't get run over by her brothers but never used it for naps (because of the aforementioned brothers). Swing in living room. Nursing pillows and stools in nursery and living room. Glider upstairs.

We had a stash of diapers and wipes, and Extra clothes/bibs downstairs. We also had a 1.5 year old when #2 arrived and quickly found it was easier to supervise him if I didn’t have to be constantly going upstairs for things. We also always kept a swing and a bouncy seat downstairs - someplace safe to put baby when needing to attend to toddler. OP mentions this is #3 so thought I would mention because without another young child I probably would have just kept most things upstairs.

anticipate mostly nursing upstairs (For my own comfort, our couch sucks) but who knows. and rock n play will likely move around the house - upstairs while we shower, downstairs for the rest of the day.

Get a better side chair or something if you can't sit comfortably on your couch. I got a really comfortable chair in my family room that actually reclines (does not look like a recliner at all)- 90% of nursing was done there and the rest was middle of the night in a rocking chair. Nursing takes soooo long in the beginning that watching TV and talking to friends while nursing was important.

Downstairs we have a pack and play with the changing area. If we didn’t have that I’d just put something down and changed on the sofa. But a cheap changing area would be fine too.
