TJ’s class of 2018 was super impressive. Even more so than last year.
It is impressive. But last years class was considered unusually weak. This year’s class is considered to be on the strong side.
TJ had no kids report UC Berkley, though, down from 11 (although, like the other HSs, this is self report. About 50 kids are missing). Interested to hear if other HSs had any kids going to Berkley. Purely selfish motivations. My DC2 is at her base school, not TJ, and badly wants Berkley. Is the new. UC cap on OOS admissions making getting in nearly impossible?
OOS admissions is extremely tough, even for many TJ students who also will have other options, but word of mouth could also be a factor. The UC system overall has had funding issues for years and they place a huge emphasis on research and graduate study vs. undergraduate study in general. With high tuition, some may think it is not as good of a deal as alternatives.
I have had two cousins who were rejected by Berkeley, attend UVA in recent years.

Yes, actually surprised at the marked difference between McLean and the other fcps schools' results. I wasn't expecting that much of a distinct difference between nova public hs.
This is demographics, not ability or achievement. Most of the private colleges listed in the McLean’s matriculation list cost around $70k/year. Out of state publics cost around $40-50k. You would likely find a similar list at Langley or Madison.
