I'm not trying to be hurtful, but probably not good enough for Tech period. Especially, out of NVa. I think the average accepted applicant (I believe weighted) GPA for across all majors this spring was a 4.1. There's still lots of time to pull it up though. Applications were way up this past round and I think they're switching to the Common App next year which could mean even more.

Honestly? No. My 7th grader just finished up Algebra 1 with an A. He loves engineering and even at age 13 knows he has to crush it in Math and Science to get into even tech.

It sucks that college in Virginia is so competitive. I have a neighbor that is off to Stanford in the fall. She got into Stanford, but waitlisted at UVA. Insane!



such drama, you can go to CC for 1 year and go to UVA or Tech ... but kids have a huge ego and can't do that.

the 3.4 is not a big deal if you goal is to graduate from UVA or Tech, you are just making it a big deal


Actually you need 2 years. My son did this and went to UVA. But it is 2 years, not 1. They still look back after only 1. I can also tell you that it is very hard to focus in community college.

Too early to think about getting into certain colleges. BTW, Junior year is typically a HARD academic year. Then comes the SAT/ACT.

Are these out of state scores OP or did you put the wrong grade in school?

Did you mean to put 9th instead of 8th grade?

The courses also look one year behind.

OP don't worry. The weighted IB courses will move the GPA upward. By the end of Junior year the GPA will be in the 3.7+ range. plus the full IB diploma bump...maybe not Tech but many other great schools to choose from. Save some of the stressing for the actual IB program, SATs, puberty, etc.

Are you sure you don't mean freshman? You skilled ninth in the description you gave and those look like my son's ninth grade classes.

Granted, my kid got no ads but freshman year he had similar grades. Kicked butt thereafter and is going to study engineering in an OOS flagship.
