My younger one is at an in-home. She closes for the above, but also closes a few random times like the Friday before Mother's day (child care provider day apparently). And then she takes 2 solid weeks of vacation at some point during the year. It's a lot, but the trade off is that she is really flexible at other times. Like during the blizzard of 2016, public schools were closed the whole week (she follows FCPS for weather closures) but she opened up after 3 days because her driveway and roads were cleared.
Yeah my inhome is open all snow days. She says if you can make it to her house, she's open.
Our in home is only closed when the federal government is closed.
She doesn't take vacations?
I was replying to the weather portion of the above. She has two weeks in her contract, but usually only takes one week.

20 days plus it follows FCPS even when FCPS is closed because of bad weather that's not affecting this part of the county, or when it's too cold for the bus to start or kids to be standing at the bus stop which is maddening to me given how frequently FCPS can be closed. I think ours is closed too much.

Ours is closed all Federal Holidays plus Emancipation Day since they follow DCPS. They are closed only 2-3 days for teacher development. In the past they've been closed a week after Xmas, but I don't think that happened this year (not sure since we were away anyway). This is a daycare center.

We're in a daycare sponsored by a fed agency and they close only for fed holidays plus two teacher training and classroom turnover days in August. When we move on to preschool there will be way more days off to deal with, which is part of why decided to stay with our daycare for the 3s year.

Mine is a part time school and somewhat follows FCPS school holidays/early closures, but they start in September, take 3 weeks for Christmas, and get out end of May. Off all summer. I find it excessive but I have to remember it is a part time school afterall and am very happy there otherwise with the staff.
The school across the street that is full or part time is similiar schedule except they run a summer camp also, with 3 weeks off in August.

Ours follows a traditional school calendar, it opens end of August, and last day is first week in June. Closed during all federal holidays, 3 days for thanksgiving, 4 days total for parent -teacher conferences, 2 weeks winter break, 1 week spring break, and about 7 days total for professional development.

It depends on the office/agency. In DHs case, everyone that is "telework ready/eligible" is expected to telework that day if OPM closes. However, having to provide childcare makes you ineligible for telework so if OPM says stay home and telework and our daycare closes, then DH doesn't have to telework because he needs to provide childcare so he gets the day.
No. The new notice last week that came out specifically said if you need childcare, you must take annual leave. Childcare is not an exemption anymore. So if there's a blizzard, it really impacts families of small children.

Ours is closed for all federal holidays except veteran's day, and also on the day after thanksgiving and for 3 teacher development days. Follows the feds for snow closures but has limited hours if fcps closes or delays opening.

That's pretty good. Ours was closed for all Federal Holidays, so Labor Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, etc. Plus they followed the local school system for snow day closings not the Gov snow closures.

Not in DC, but ours (a daycare/pre-school) is closed all Federal Holidays except MLK day, one extra Friday in mid-April, between Christmas and NY, and the day after Thanksgiving. The way they handle teacher vacations, aside from supplemental staff, is by not enrolling any new students between June and September, so the class sizes drop and teachers can take off for a while. Right now, my son’s class, which had 15 kids in April, is down to 10. The facility does not close for snow.
Other daycares in my area close WAY more often, including for a week or three in the summer, and also have weird half days on Wednesday (or similar). These tend to be the fancier daycares; those in working-class neighborhoods tend to stay open more.

Ours nominally follows FCPS for closures but makes a judgement call based on on how the roads are in our neck of the woods. If the roads are safe, she's open. If they're dicey, she's closed (since she doesn't want her assistants having to drive on crappy roads to get there either). She's never closed when OPM wasn't also closed so that's been really nice for us since DH is a fed.
