Where in the LCTA zone are houses selling for significantly under the peak prices? My guess is that everyone in LCTA can afford to move, if they want to.

Of course, I smile and nod and say nice things when my nieghbors go on and on about it and as soon as one of them says something dumb like "it's just like being in a private school" I am quick to say "no, it's not even close actually" And yes, my child does go to private school.

I know what you mean. I have several friends who went there and moved their kids to private school for middle. They were thrilled to learn their kids were ahead of the curve and found private school to be pretty easy.

I'd rather my kid go to a quality public school and get the kind of social education that is impossible to replicate - along with the more traditional academics. I don't know, I just prefer to live in the real world, but that's just me. It's not like I don't see you all at Windmill Hill park looking aimless while your nanny plays with your kid.

who clearly never sent their child to ACPS. We tried our local "good" ACPS elementary and it didn't work. The curriculum and the teaching was just poor. It's not wonder kids continually fail.

God, these private school snobs are making me want to gag. Bragging about how much money you have or how much money your private school costs is so tacky and nouveau riche.

I personally have come to the conclusion that having mommy and daddy pave the way for you with the best of everything including overpriced private schools, creates teens and young adults who are out of touch with reality and can only actually land a job because their parents called in a favor. I'd rather my kid go to a quality public school and get the kind of social education that is impossible to replicate - along with the more traditional academics. This private school thing bugs me, I am sending my daughter there, because she is zoned for it, and private school is a scam, testing controlled for economic factors have proven this over and over again. So if you want a kid that lives a shelter life and is only exposed to rich snotty kids, then it isn't like a private school.

BTW, I hate school uniforms, and considered going to another school based soley on that, but then decided it would be best for the kid to have school mates living near her.

Does anyone know how the K lottery will impact K students at Crouch?

General ACPS answer: You'll meet the teachers at the beginning of the year, about a week or two before school begins. You'll then be able to bring your child in at open of class daily for about a week. You'll receive teacher reports at least once a week, and newsletters at least every other week or so (depending on school schedule). You'll come to the first formal conference just after the end of the first quarter. You'll have optional further meetings. You'll be given your teacher's and the principal's emails and you can contact them at any time. You'll be strongly encouraged, if not required, to come to at least one or two of the add'l three end-of-term meetings with teachers.

Those are the usual-and-customary meetings. You can schedule additional meetings any time, for essentially any reason, and many parents do. Unless you're truly going over-the-top, you'll find that parent involvement is extremely welcome.

All this is separate and apart from PTA events, at which there's basically always social interaction with faculty and staff. If your child has special needs, there will be considerably more communication as well.

Fabulous little school. Very involved parents, excellent faculty and staff. We aren't enrolled there; we are private school refugees at another excellent ACPS public (Charles Barrett) but we know many LC families. With decent parent involvement, you're looking at a really terrific opportunity.

(LCTA is a fabulous school by the way. Filled with wonderful, lovely families and kids. And - yes, it is absolutely as good or better then most privates. And, just like the best privates, there are sometimes families that leave for various reasons.)

Just curious, what evidence do you have to support this statement?

Glad to see this thread, I am thinking of moving to Alexandria and I received a warm reception (over the phone) from this school. I know nothing about the area, we're a military family but it seems to be diverse and it sounds like the parents and kids love the school. So glad to read this thread.
