Mathnasium is a franchise, so each is owned by a private individual who sets their own costs. They also have the ability to set how the curriculum is done.

If it is done correctly, by the Mathnasium principles, it is an excellent program. However- I saw at least one PP saying "my kid wouldn't do well with worksheets" etc.

That is a LOT of what Mathnasium does.

I worked in two different Learning Centers, one in Frederick in high school and one in college in Virginia. They paid well and were great for my resume. But both did not require any particular training or math expertise, and both of them were owned by entrepreneurs who had bought the franchise but were both individually HORRIBLE at math, just wanted to start a profitable business. They would tutor kids and completely teach them wrong/incorrect mathematics, and I have heard that is not that rare of an occurrence.

I think it completely depends on which Learning Center you are attending, and what type of learner your child is. I also think it depends a lot on who the tutors are at the center and what their training and certification is. I would research the center, and observe the tutors. See what teaching style they are using, and see how you think your student would do. Also consider if you're always going to go on Mondays, see what staff will always be there on Mondays. Or if you'll always be going on Saturdays- are there always a ton of kids there on Saturdays and only 2 tutors? Things to think about.

Absolutely. This is what I use mathnasium for. Grade level is irrelevant. I believe they even support AP computer science.

No, not at all. My 7th grader has been going to Mathnasium for years. Hes in Geometry. Did Algebra1 in 6th grade for HS credit. He's a very advanced math student. My 3rd grader goes as well and he is at normal grade level. Mathnasium has made it easy for them in the classroom. Thry each go 10xs a month and learn more in those sessions than what they learn in school in 4xs a much time. If they could do all subjects like they do mathnasium, they could be in school only 4hrs a day.

Yes. Mathnasium has its own curriculum separate from school so his grade wouldn't matter. They will test him initially to set up his assignments, and he progresses at his own pace. We do mathnasium purely for enrichment and the challenge, not for remedial support, and it works well (but my child isn't several grades ahead like yours).

The one my kid is in has 1 tutor for every 2 to 3 kids. No separate classrooms but it’s a quiet place with kids bent over their assignments so unless your kid is very distractable it should be ok.

Last year Olney was $200 per month twice per week, but they had one bonus day so you could do three times per month. I have talked to 3 sites and all agreed to waive the registration fee. I find the owners are open to negotiating about frequency and fees (but not the monthly fee or assessment fee). We were very satisfied with Olney but our kid's athletic schedule became too intense so now we use a tutor once per week.

$265 a month for a third grader, in NJ.

You really need to check with your local center for rates since obviously they vary.
