Once for about 9 months, my H worked 2nd shift. 3-11. I worked 6-2:30.

Our aupair had different hours T/Th am so my H could work out, some nights just helped with dinner and bedtime routine. She only had to cover 2:30-3 daily.

Oh, stop, Jealous Bitter Mommy. She already said that he parents beg to have their grandchild sleepover. And her child sounds very young so sports are pretty much out for two year olds.

Bitterness is a really ugly quality. No wonder your kids don't want to be with you.

What do you think would be an ideal Job for a single mom to achieve a balance? Dad is not very involved, so I need to be available for dr, dentist, teacher meetings, etc.
want to cover the bills, but don’t need to be rich — want to maximize time w kids.

It's difficult until you find the right job, but it can be done. I'm not trying to run the world with my job. It pays the bills, plus some. That's enough for me, and gives me lots of time with my husband and kids.

I too feel like I have a really great work-life balance and we're far from millionaires. DH and I are both very fulfilled in city government. We work 35 hour work weeks which leaves us with time in the morning and evening with DD, and all weekend. Combined HHI is $200K but benefits are amazing and we love our daughter's daycare. We both feel very lucky and satisfied. DH would love another kid but I think a lot about how well things are working right now and wonder if we can sustain this sense of contentedness and peace with a bigger family.

I feel pretty good about my balance. I have a GS 15 job (attorney/non-supervisory). I do interesting, meaningful work with mostly great colleagues. I am good at my job and recognized as such. I am not as ambitious as I could be (any rise to SES will likely be 5 years out from where it could have been), but I’m happy. I work about 50 hours a week, but 5 of those are totally flexible. I travel only when it’s essential or particularly interesting: 4-5 times/year max for less than a week at a time. I have 2 great young kids and another on the way. I see them from 6:30-8, 6-8:30 and all weekend long. I have a great DH who I love and who works more like 60 hours a week... but shift work, so he can do overnights/work around kid events and schedules. We have a great nanny and typically manage 2 date nights a month. We go away for long weekends and a few solid vacations a year. We’re never going to be billionaires or even millionaires. We have to watch what we spend, but own a house in DC and live comfortably. We’re happy.
