We loved it over Spring Break and go back each year to our favorite upscale, child-friendly resort there. Lovely culture and delicious food. We went to Tulum for a day too --- most amazing food there and love the ambiance. We have travelled all over the Caribbean and there is just something special about Mexico that we personally love.

Whenever I hear this question posed, I think it is really that much different than staying at a nice hotel in a crime ridden US city like Bmore or Chicago. Don’t go to the bad areas and accept that sometimes the bad people wander into the nice area.

A place where a room is under $250 a night and the food/booze is included in the rate? I would immediately sniff that out as not that nice. I certainly don't think anyone deserves to have their room robbed by staff. Wherever they stay at whatever price point. Separate issue.

I think it's some angry people from the politics forum, trying to make a point. Since this thread comes up weekly now.


NP who also loves Mexico and is hesitant about travel to Mexico.

Not sure why you are attacking the person who said Grand Oasis is not known as a now resort. It isn’t! Rosewood, banyan tree, nizuc, grand veles, all have good reputations.

DH and I have been to Mexico 5 or 6 times and even got married there and have always had a fabulous time. We would go back in a heartbeat. BUT I would not want to take our baby just to err on the side of caution.

Nope, I wouldn't. I LOVE Mexico, but ask yourself why it's so cheap. You can go and you probably won't have a problem, but what if you do get sick or are the victim of a crime? The police may or may not help, the doctors will think you are rich and will try to extort you. I don't think it's responsible to bring my kids there, so I won't. Only you know your risk tolerance though.

It's why I put the word nice in quotes. But you see it online listed as a "5-star luxury resort." But whatever. "Nice" or not, extortion and robbery shouldn't be part of your vacation.

Each time I go, I just stay in the resort. I have zero desire to leave the resort grounds to explore or whatever. I did that years ago and those few times were enough for me.

I feel perfectly safe at the resort.
