No - I have a brother with mental illness and a mother who paid more attention to him than the other 3 of us.

Having a mentally ill family member puts real strange dynamics in a family I am only now realizing.

I’m very close with my sister so I’m with you OP. We talk all the time and spend a significant amount of time together. She is a caring, trusting and loyal person. However, we weren’t always close, but as we have gotten older and see how ppl in society act (just look at some of the responses on this thread) we have come to appreciate each other more.

Talking to a sibling 5-10 times on the phone isn't being "close," it is being co-dependent.

As the older sister to younger twin sisters, my observation is that this is pretty normal for twins. Sometimes they include me in their text chains and I have to get on there and tell them to take me off because it is CONSTANT. I talk with them probably 5 times a week plus daily text, so I'm hardly non communicative but they take it to a whole other level!

OP I don't think it's weird, I'm super close to my family. My brother and I text at least a few times every day and often talk if we're both commuting at the same time there or back. I talk to my dad just about every day and my mom every couple of days (he's retired, she works still).

I am so sorry. I hope you have found a way to move on and feel proud of yourself.

I am close like this with my mom. They actually moved cross country and retired in my neighborhood on my street. We talk daily and eat dinner together a few nights a week. We help each other on home projects. Painting a room is so quick with 4 adults. Dh puts up with it all because I run interference with my parents for him and they babysit every Saturday night for us. I also see my parents a lot without him because I'm sure he'd get sick of them.

Dh is my #1 and I never complain about him to my parents and have a wall between my parents and my marriage. I've seen lots of marriages go sour when women share too much with their families. Anytime dh has even a minor beef with my parents I bring it up to them so that he has very little to complain about. Wish dh did that with his family but he's never brought up any issue I had with his family in 14 years of marriage. He tells me to just deal.

My three sisters all live within walking distance to me. Our kids all go to the same schools. We are close but all work except one who is busy volunteering and I cannot imagine talking to any of them more than once a day.

Your kids will resent you, OP. You have to cut that down. If you work, when do you spend time with your own children alone (meaning without twin sister on the iPad)?

My mom used to come home from work and immediately get on the phone when I was a kid. I hated it because I hadn’t seen her all day and wanted her attention.

So did my mom and I never minded and now mom and I are best friends so really doesn't make a difference if mom is there for you in every other way.
