A cell phone?

The home devices can't do anything a cell phone can't do. I guess you're still using a flip phone?

That's precisely what I was thinking. Maybe these folks don't have cellphones, either?

Exactly. We do not have control over our data anymore. Even if you don't have a smartphone, pretty much everyone around you does. Your data is getting mined constantly. You can choose to stress about it, or you can accept that this is the world we live in. Be vigilant about monitoring your bank accounts and your credit. Or give up all technology and move to a deserted island somewhere.

Or you can advocate for more control over your personal data and how it’s used. Which is the most responsible option. I wish people would stop overlooking it and accepting whatever is handed to them, or getting annoyed when others modify laws to keep up with hanging technology and risks.

I put a physical cover over the camera and sound input holes on my devices. I just peel them back when I actually need to use them. Zuckerberg does the same.

Because they're too lazy to turn on their own lights or get a pencil to write "milk" on a piece of paper. They are dumb as shit.

We are one huge step closer to a Wall-E world.

Me either! What is the point? You don't have a full understanding of how your data is being used. Yet you are willing to take that risk, in exchange for the coolness factor of being able to tell Alexa to turn on some music or order from Amazon.

Big brother is always listening AND you paid for it! Stupid sheeple.

Okay. The more noise they get, the harder it gets to sift through. I absolutely don't care.

they've been listening to my conversations for over three years, long before I had an Alexa.

in 2015 when I loudly screamed to my husband that the neighbors were getting a new roof, and how they're taking down the solar panels. Nothing but solar ads showed up on web-browsers/ social media/ etc for days. That was the first time I was certain they were collecting audio data from a device, not in use. I did not have FB messenger on my phone at that time either.

Pre-Alexa days.

It's not a difference of opinion, it's that you clearly don't understand the technology and have a limited understanding of what can be done. Same with landline phones that aren't old fashioned rotary phones. You know, the VOiP Cisco ones that have fake dial tones? same thing.

We can hear you through it all, and can see you through your camera, dumdum.

At least government is regulated and if they listen in without a warrant, they’re breaking the law! Google et al have no regulations.

Did you read the article? It's an exploit found on your smartphone as well. You're better protected if you have an Apple device because Siri can't be accessed to open sensitive information unless the phone is unlocked.

I don't know why anyone would have a smartphone unlocked these days, though. Very unwise.

I already have my identity stolen, so the info is out there, so I let Alexa and likes in. The more the merrier. I don't lock my phone, I don't see any point in it.
