Jeff, I hear you say that this is a very difficult issue, but I have never had this problem on any other website I visit. Honestly, it really makes me wonder what kind of ad companies you do business with!
This sounds like something new that I haven't heard reported before. I can't explain why some users only get these redirects on DCUM and not other websites. I personally almost never get them here even though I am on the site all day, but I do get them at other sites. There are a couple of sites major websites that I know that I will get redirects from and I sometimes trace those redirects to see if it will provide information that I can use here. Here is a New York Times article that describes the issue:
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/23/technology/personaltech/malware-prize-malvertising.html
I use very well-known and common advertising networks. Moreover, I stop working with any network that it is a source of repeated problems. I have permanently stopped ads from several networks. Last week I stopped ads from the network that had been my second largest source of revenue. This has caused an noticeable impact on overall revenue, but I'd rather earn less money than continue receiving malicious ads from them. It is frustrating that the problem continues even after stopping ads from that network. Even more because if I don't get the redirects myself -- and I haven't been -- there is very little that I can do about them.
