ACT in my opinion is better for STEM degrees. You get both math and science

You also have to think about strategy for your kid. Many schools superscore the SAT and do not superscore the ACT. Some schools will look at multiple ACT test events to see how the kid did in each section over multiple tests but not that many. Without knowing this in advance, my DD did the ACT. It worked out fine for her with a score of 34. For my DS, who does not have her same academic profile, I will encourage him to do the SAT in order to take advantage of the superscoring.
