Many woman get involved with prisoners. You just don't hear about it. It is like having a long distance relationship without having to clean up after the dude. This is a thing now, ever since the hot felon showed up and turned lonely women on.

My brother gets into a different jailhouse relationship everytime he is in prison.

I once had a lively affair with an ex-con, but I went on to marry a cop. They're good for keeping your mind off things for a while, but I would never marry one, in or out of prison. My ex-boyfriend was still involved in criminal activity. I just looked the other way, since I was using his hospitality anyway. Have fun with your newfound love, OP. You don’t love him. You love the idea of him. The reality of him is very different. Put aside the whole prison thing. You are essentially in a long distance relationship. There is a lot of gaps when you aren’t around someone all the time. Your mind fills in those gaps. But that isn’t who they really are. That’s why many LDR break up once they are in the same place.

Acknowledge to yourself that being in a partial relationship gives you the partial relationship you emotionally need. But don’t think it’s anything more than that.
Then get into therapy and figure out why you keep picking liars and cheats?

FWIW my friend married a prisoner. She was volunteering at the prison teaching a class, and they fell in love. I believe the relationship is real but I am very skeptical it will go well when he gets out -- not because he's violent or a fraud or anything like that, just that right now he has a ton of time to focus on her and that will change. He's also been in a long time, has a complicated pre-prison life, was caught with contraband in prison ... just seems like it will be a real challenge.

PS, conjugal visits apparently are not allowed in many prisons, although the rules vary state by state. I'd had no idea until my friend married.
