As for what's physically "optimal," again this depends on the former. Some feel best in the morning. Others feel best later in the day. Do what works for you, and do it consistently.
Agree so much with this. My "optimal" time of day is about 5:30 PM but guess what, I will never make it to the gym at that time of day, just not going to happen, not with needing to get the little dictator I live with fed and off to bed. However, a slightly less optimal time of day that I CAN make it to the gym is in the early afternoon when I take my lunch break. Do I work out with the intensity or for as long as I would if I went at night? No, I'm a little sluggish, I'm time restricted to my hour lunch break, it's far from perfect. But I can make it happen on a regular basis. As a bonus, I don't feel any mommy guilt because I'm not "stealing" time that I could otherwise spend with my kid to go to the gym. I have to take a one hour lunch every day so I might as well spend it at the gym.
