Chevy Cruze Diesel. http://autoweek.com/article/car-reviews/2017-chevrolet-cruze-diesel-review-fun-and-efficient-it-exists

You drive 100miles/day on highway, and that's where diesels outperform hybrids (hybrids do better in city and stop and go). Plus parts and service are super-cheap on Chevrolets (even less than Toyota) because it's a domestic.

Even the non-diesel version is pretty good.

I would second the Subaru Crosstrek recommendation. This will probably be our next car.

NP I test drove the Sante Fe and thought it drove horribly. My sister in law loves her however. The Honda felt like a much more quality cawith a smoother ride and nice features. I third the HR-V or the CR-V.

Kia Soul. Affordable, great visibility, cute, and comfortable.

I have a 2015 Subaru Forester and really like it. I drive about 150 miles a week for my commute (DC streets to highway). It's safe, parks easily, is comfortable for the driver, and gets good mileage. The backseat is tighter than we realized but you don't seem to care about that.

We also looked at the CR-V and RAV, and I think I liked the RAV a lot. Went with the Subaru because it was better on crash tests. We've done regular maintenance but had no other mechanical problems so far.

However, I don't feel the audio sync with my Android phone is very good -- it's fine for telephone calls but unreliable for music.

I think you need to get out of the 90's! You can't get a new car for $20K. Unless you are looking at a small domestic sedan/compact. But, that doesn't make sense if you want an SUV.

You are not getting a quality SUV for $20K. Given how much you drive and how long you want to keep it, you simply need to buy a Honda CRV and get with the program re: pricing.

Yes, you can. It may be a lower model but you can.

Yep, I pretty easily bought a new base model RAV4 for 22,500 out the door last year. Wait til the end of the month during a slow month or end of the model year and it’s not difficult. Try and tell me that a RAV4 isn’t a “quality” SUV.

I don't really consider a RAV4 an SUV as they are very small. The new ones are slightly bigger but they are still small.
