I wrote above that I took my daughter to see it Broadway. For over a year, my house and car were entirely free of Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, and all the other bands kids her age enjoy (and their parents hate). The price of the tickets was more than worth it.

This is the sort of thing that wealthy grandparents like to do. So, let them.

I’m taking my kid to see it in NYC for her 14th birthday present. Many, many hundreds. But she’s been obsessed with it for years.

I’m taking my 7yo and 10yo, but the amount I spent on tickets is the same amount I’d spend for them to see a different show.

I think it's shitty that you know they would love to go, you bought tickets for you and your DH, but wouldn't spend that money on your kids. Only you can answer if you should feel guilty about that.

Yep! My 9-year-old saw it last year and is going again this summer. She loves it, and it’s been fun to enjoy it with her. My husband could not care less about seeing it. Hers were $199 tickets. People take their kids to Disney and to other Broadway shows like Lion King. In the scheme of how often our family does something like this, it’s not that much.

Yes OP. People (relatively rich ones) also spend hundreds for their kids to see the Lion King, Frozen and other Broadway shows.

+1 People buy fancy cars and international plane tickets and high end handbags for teenagers. Why is buying Hamilton tickets different from any form of wealthy person spending?

You should only feel guilty about having wasted hundreds of dollars yourselves, setting a poor example.

It all depends on what you can afford or what you choose to spend your money on.

I am taking my 11 year old, who knows the whole soundtrack by heart, has read several biographies of hamilton, has read the book about the musical, has watched the PBS special and has attended a lecture on the musicality of the show. I am not taking my husband or my other kids (including the 7 year old who is a big fan but would not sit for that long and would rather just dance around to the music at home).

We took my 7 year old. When I think about the price I cringe, but it was an amazing experience and I am glad we shared it with him.

He picked up one of the dance moves Thomas Jefferson did which is pretty funny.
