We got them for DD's third birthday because she had been playing with them for months at preschool and was asking for them at home. Early 2's may be a bit too young, but 2.5 should be great. And they're an awesome gift, so NBD if you get them slightly early. Love the idea of a baking sheet to stick them on.

We got some for DD on her 2nd birthday. They weren’t a big hit, but she did play with them occasionally. Now, at 3, she is much more interested and seeks them out.

Highly recommend for about 18 months +. It is fun to watch how they play with them differently over time.

My 2yo has a set like this that she's been playing with since 18 months. She plays with them every day. The open tiles are much easier for her to use than the original magnatiles.

Magnatiles are great. We got our first set of 100 when DS was 18 months. A year later, we got him a second set of 100, because 100 just wasn't enough to make complicated stuff with. 200 and he was good to go. He is 8 and he still occasionally plays with them. They are expensive, so why not get the maximum out of them?

After lots of hunting around on the Internet, I found Lakeshore Learning is the best place to buy them -- when they have the 20% off sales.

At our preschool too. I remember walking by the door one day and being incredibly impressed with a group of two-year-olds working together to build a Magnatile tower taller than they were. The 2s, 3s, 4s, and 5s classes all have Magnatiles--I think it is one of the few toys with that kind of staying power. My 6yo still uses ours regularly.

My 1.5 y.o. likes stacking them. I probably wouldn't have thought to buy them so young, but he's playing with his older sister's.

My DDs friend played with them a ton at age two so we got her a box. She barely touched them, but now at 5.5 she plays with them everyday.

Agree with PPs. I got Magna-tiles for my girl when she was about 20 months. At first, all she did was just stack them. As a young 2, she started building simple structures, such as cubes, stacked cubes, rectangular cubes. She's now an older 2 and builds structures using the triangles (e.g., pyramids) and I see her experimenting with the different triangular shapes to see how they go together. I recently got her a Shape-Mags set with different shapes not offered by Magna-tiles, with which you can make globes, domes, etc. I can't wait to see how her creations grow! Two is definitely not too young!

The adult can build really long "trains" of magnatiles laid out like a bunch of boxes or rooms all connected sharing walls with no lid or ceiling. Then the 2 year old puts little figures (dinosaur/fisher price animals etc) in and out of the little rooms.

It's also really fun to watch them grow from just stacking the tiles in a flat layered pile to learning how to build open cubes. So cool to observe their skills develop!

My 2 year olds don't really like them yet, but I do. mostly they push the car that came with them around while I build things. I want to buy more.
