It really isn't relevant ...nut just to satisfy inquiring minds. We live in Fairfax. We went to Sandbridge two summers ago. It took 5.5 hrs leaving st 7:30a.m. on a Sat. in July. But, we aren't hoing to Sandbridge this year. We are going to OC....and considering the suggestions given as well as any others thst are in Ocean City.

And if you are going to va beach during peak rush you would presumably be leaving for oc during peak rush.

Can I just say that I totally feel you on the double beds vs. queen beds? The worst is when you expect queens and see doubles. Ugh.

Last summer we stayed here for a few days. I don't think it took 4.5 hours to get there but it was there and back on a weekday. There was a free childcare place, two nice pools, and free towels. Chair rental on the beach. It was so much easier than the beach house/condo rental.

I agree that 5 hours to VA Beach is too long - you must be going during rush/peak hours. We have family in VB and drive from Alexandria - on the short end will take just over 3 hours and on long end about 4.

we are aware of the cost. We have stayed in condos for 10+ years. We don't want a week anymore. We don't want to drag our sheets/towels for a miniweek.

DP - I live in Fairfax. I personally think traffic is always worse going to VA beach.


You are doing something wrong if it takes you 5 hours. I live in annap and door to door to my house in OBX is about 4:45. Outside of peak rush hour, even at peak rush hour 5 hours to va beach is extreme.

You can rent sheets and towels. Much easier.

$600 a night for a mediocre at best hotel. If it strictly a location thing have fun. But if I paying $600 a night I would explore my options.


There really aren't too many options around here. I personally don't mind OC too much and my kids love it! We usually stay in a condo, and it runs about $800 a night for oceanfront.

The Hilton is pretty nice for OC, but it's far up the boardwalk from the action. It will run you over $600 a night in the summer. It has queens.

I stayed at this Holiday Inn last summer for $400+ and it was disgusting...or maybe that is just what Ocean City is like. The crowd was......the kids pool was closed due to a child vomiting. The adult pool was so dirty I found random hair stuck on my kid. I couldn't believe what we got for what we paid considering you can stay at a play like Hyatt Chesapeake Bay for much less.


The Park Place has been renovated, has a tiki bar right above the boardwalk and an outdoor pool, but it is overlooking the parking lot, not the ocean. Some of the rooms have two queens. It's right down in the action, so it might be louder if you have kids. It's cheaper than the Hilton. We aren't going to OC this summer, but now that I look, I might take the kids for a few days.

the Holiday Inn at 17th street is walkable to the "stuff" on the boardwalk, but in the quieter park.

And, I forgot... we left our house at 6:45 a.m. and arrived at our Mexican condo around 2:30 p.m.. Roughly 7-8 hrs travel time vs. 2.75 hrs driving to OC.

Some of y'all are just insistent on talking me out of OC. Let. it. go. YOU can go wherever you want. I'm seeking advice on hotels in OC.

OP here. We were in Mex last week. We had a great time. And no, it was not cheaper than 2-3 nights in OC in the summer. Thanks.
