I am this poster. Just to add--when I used this term in college (I am 26 now), I used it to just mean make out so I wouldn't worry too much!

NP. It means the same thing when I was in high school and college (I'm 35). Anything from kissing to sex. I now use it to mean those things + meet up, depending on context ("great, let's hook up after work at the park").

You are a moron. My kids know that they have no privacy on the iphones. They know that we can track all their texts and there is an app that tells us where they are. It is called parenting. We are open about it, if they don't like it they are free to return their iphones.

Same here, and one of my kids actually did decide they didn't want a phone with our conditions. While I'm responsible for them (both in terms of guiding them to adulthood and in terms of legal liability), I consider it perfectly reasonable to know what they're doing on the phone/internet - especially since I pay for the devices they use.

It's completely individual to the teen and his/her peer group. It's the same as how we would say "hook up" in college to mean anything ranging from making out to having penetrative intercourse.

i know i've seen hu to also mean hate you, but it would depend on how it was used.

as a teacher, i know that hooking up means a whole slew of things. however, 'wanna hang out?' usually just means mess around/oral and that's it.

actual conversation i've heard between students:
girl: he asked me if i wanted to hook up last night
girl 2: ooo, did you?
girl: i told him no, but we could hang out
girl 2: ooo, is he good? he has a wide tongue, so i bet he's good.

i tend to start doing the internal la la la at that point because i don't want to know that. kids forget teachers exist 99% of the time. it's both a gift and a curse.
