Minivan by a mile! Sliding doors, sedan height and captains chairs make them so easy.

Love my Honda Pilot. 3rd row big enough for adults. Can definitely fit a large dog behind the 3rd row -- there's a decent amount of room even using it, and you can only use part of the row if you desire. Have taken a big group of girl scouts camping for 5 days with room to spare.

We have three kids and Honda Pilot. Works great. Very happy and can tow 5000 lb and carry heavy duty bike trailer with 5 bikes.

AWD Is nice perk and gas mileage is pretty comparable

A little shorter than ody but that helps us with city parking. When we travel as family just put 3rd row down and oodles of space.

As for access, sliding forward works ok but we actually pretty to just lay the second row flat, kids scamper over and then put seat back up. The lever for seat back and slide forward are right next to each other so you can see which you prefer.

If you get an SUV and will ever carpool, be sure it has captains chairs in the second row. Getting bigger kids to climb over seats is a pain and none of those moveable rows are nearly as moveable as they say.

the new Ford Expedition is fantastic.

We have an Acadia with the 2nd row captains chairs and I like it a lot. The 2016s have a larger cargo area than a Tahoe with the 2rd row folded down (2017 has a new body style). A few years ago I had a Hyundai Santa Fe and LOVED it, still kick myself that I traded it in. Now the Santa Fe's have captains chairs I really like but the cargo area wasn't big enough.

If you only have 1 kid, I'd go for an SUV but I am also the mom with 2 kids kicking myself for not being able to bring myself to get a minivan.

Subaru is launching a brand new model - the Ascent - which will be a 3-row SUV. Looks nice.

We have two dogs I, a minivan and an SUV. My large dogs have more room in minivan. Plus it is much easier for them to get in and out, which has become increasingly more important as they age.

Toyota 4Runner w/ 3rd row has been great for us.
