Ok, you asked. Every ES school now has a "niche" whether that is AAP or Head Start or performing arts or special education. That's expensive to maintain the theme, the services and the teachers. IEPs are expensive.

Also, diversity and unchecked immigration is exorbitantly expensive. Subsidized activity fees, school supplies and FARMS. It costs much more to educate a non-English speaking high school freshman than her native English speaking classmates.

FCPS can't be everything to every student and their families. Look at job titles! Your neighborhood ES isn't just a principal, an admin team and classroom teachers. We have School Based Technology Speciialists, Parent Liaisons, Social Workers, Guidance Counselors, Psychologists, Asst Principals, Special Ed Aides, IA, Reading Specialists, Speech Teachers, ESOL teachers...

I think your kid will be better off academically with an experienced and seasoned teacher taking over versus a long term sub. A great sub is a needle in a hay stack and the rest are just keeping their fingers in the dam. This solution would bring me much more comfort.

Revolving door of subs in HS math. Long term negative effect on learning. It’s hard enough bring a teacher. There’s a little mired number of quality people available to sub. Gotta b desperate to go get that headache.

teachers going out on maternity leave happens at the privates just as much. Happened to DC in English class two years in a row.

I have taught in both FCPS and LCPS. It seems to be difficult for school systems to find subs who can speak and understand English. I have no idea how many of them get through the sub process. Those of us who know the few excellent subs have them on speed dial/text to arrange for them directly. I absolutely do not trust the office to secure a decent sub for me.
