Ridiculous. I'm sure you are some A hole pretending. No one on DCUM speaks this way. Fort Totten is a perfectly safe neighborhood and now the Metropolitan Branch Trail has been extended which is really great.

I live near the Mews. I don't think it as secluded as another poster has made it out to be. I also have not smelled the transfer station in the years I've been in the neighborhood. the path to the metro is fine during the day and has gotten much better now that NPS put gravel down to avoid it becoming a mud pit. That being said, we don't use the path once the sun goes down. Instead we take the 80 bus a few stops or walk down Galloway to SDA and then turn east.

The area has a lot going for it. A newly built library, a large gym, grocery stores. There's still a lot missing (would love the field on SDA to have more features like a playground and biking path) and some of the neighbors have outdated views of the significance of the local McDonald's and the need for more biking infrastructure, but we're happy to call this neighborhood home. Also, no one I know in the neighborhood sends their kids to Dunbar. Many are sending kids to DCI and there is also Sojourner Truth and St. Anselm's nearby.

Any thoughts?

I am a single mom with 2 boys school aged --- any advice will be appreciated. I took my boys there this weekend and they loved it.

You should move to Fairfax County. Far better schools for pubkic education.

Yuck. Anyone looking at Totten Mews would not be caught dead in FC.

I know this thread is really old, but how do people like Totten Mews that ended up buying there? Is it mostly families with kids or another demographic? How friendly/social is it? Other pros/cons?

We did. I'm still not thrilled about how quiet it is or that path to the metro....but it's the best we could do with our budget and staying close-in.

The HOA is ~$200.

I don't know exact street names, but when you take the path you walk down through the town homes in the community that was built about 10 years go (I think?) down 6th, a right on Emerson (I think) and back on 6th. You do walk through the homes in the North Michigan Park neighborhood and then there is an unpaved walkthrough to the Metro. We did the walk to and from the Metro from the community a few times - took anywhere from 6-10 minutes depending on your speed. There were a handful of others doing the walk and spotted lots of individuals along the way. We rarely ever use the Metro so that convenience is lost on us.

Houses, not house

How do you get to the metro from there? I see a "path to metro" marked on the brochure, but that seems like it would only take you to the house just north, then wind around a bit. Is there then a path thru the park?
