Ugh. I personally hate the people who use their FB account to plug their social justice agenda.

If you only use FB to show photos of work and travel, that's fine. But if you start using it to plug your organizations agenda, then I either hide or unfriend you. I have a few too many friends who can't get off their soapboxes (some who work for an organization and some who just promote the agenda). If you take up too much of my feed or drown out too much of my feed, I'm done.

I put my MIL on “restricted” on FB, but I rarely post anything on there. What I do post is school or extracurricular related, or event discussions with friends, and she doesn’t need to know all of what’s going on in my day-to-day.

I occasionally block her from my InstaStories. I wish there was a way to restrict her there without all out blocking her.

I blocked my MIL from my phone. I Unfriended both my MIL and FIL on Facebook. My MIL is nuts. My husband was ok with me blocking her from my phone after she sent me one too many messed up texts.

When my MIL (and my own mother, for that matter) got on Facebook, I told them flat out I was not using it to keep in touch with family and would reject any friend requests. MIL got all bent out of shape about it, but I am under zero obligation to let her or anyone else into all of my spaces.

Just hide, unfollow, and limit what they can see of yours.

+1 plenty of my friends and family that work for non-profs are expected to use their social media presence to promote the organization and raise awareness of the work being done.

My sister has run into similar issues with her work posts where our racist uncle replied with disgusting stuff in the comments (think comparing black students to apes) so she blocked him and deleted his comments.

Without a doubt. They're not just hurting you with their comments, but people who follow you.

I am the same in that I like having space and both of my ILs comment all over my stuff and make me feel smothered (and friend my friends). However, I don't block them in order to police what they are posting in regards to my kids. If I didn't have kids, I would totally block them.

So refriend him to appease his sadness. Then hide him an all of the family members from your feed. Then you don't have to see their daily rants. You'll only see things that they post on your wall or tag you in. If they post it on their own wall, you won't see it.

When people who I've hid ask me if I saw X, I usually tell them that I only check FB a few times a day and my feed is so long that I only end up seeing a small fraction. So, unless I check it within an hour or so of when someone posted something, I often miss things.
