There's something to this. Studies show the vast majority of the military is liberal and votes Democratic. The exception is the officers.

I'm the person who posted that. Yes, my hometown is conservative and I know a lot of officers now from home. They either went to service academies or did ROTC.

The academies and officers are often from backgrounds that are conservative, white, and UMC like my hometown. The military itself (enlisted) has a lot more Democrats and people of color.

Only a small portion see that kind of combat. You clearly don't know much.

But isn't that why you go to service academies? To serve in combat if called upon? I hope you are not saying, after 4 years of paid education, your dc would never see a real combat.

All your post says is "I don't know black people" or really many types of people... Like ones with integrity.

Integrity. That is why most dcum parents aspire for service academies. The kids can't just be smart.

They have to be smart, athletic (check, check) and have integrity (fail).

They can't get in.

What are you babbling about? I posted the above and I said I knew a lot of people who got into service academies from my hometown and they were popular. So yes, the kids I grew up with in obviously could and did get in.

LOL... There are plenty of crooks coming out of service academy. Plus disturbing stories in the news are truly disgusting. Integrity my a$$.

I only have one data point to judge, but in that case, there was no integrity. Just a bunch of conformists with groupthink who would throw someone under the bus rather than be caught "out of line".

Yes, it's an acceptable risk for parents like you, not so for people like myself.

Dcum kids aren't physically fit and smart at the same time. They are soft, on psycho drugs and finicky about what they eat. They would die a week into plebe year .

Girls are more likely to be killed by their H/BF. Maybe she shouldn't date either.

How hard is it to get a nomination-that part of the process seems daunting. If my child wanted to apply to a service academy, I would support them, but it's not an option I would promote. My father was an officer in Vietnam. He's a decorated combat veteran and very proud of his service, but he and my mom never had anything good to say about officer culture. They are very straightlaced people, and as my mom always says (almost 50 years later), "We couldn't believe all the drinking and carrying-on, we thought these people were supposed to be the best of the best!" And then she has lots of stories about officer's wives drinking gin at 10 in the morning, and people having affairs, and such.

No one is putting down the choice to attend a service academy, so how come some posters are putting down those who choose not to?
