Is there any effort among the current Haycock parents to push back against the Principal? If parents and teachers are aligned, that should count for something.

They lost a bunch of good teachers when this new guy came in. Exodus part II

But it is one of the important things. Schools can do more than one, you know.

In elementary school, academic performance isn't the most important be all end all. There are other important things.

Upset about this as well. I don't understand why this new principal is messing around with this and making a fundamental change. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I've seen him speak before - he seems really green and way over his head.

I guess you could still do level groups within a classroom
with one teacher. I think that’s how Haycock did reading/word study groups when my kid was in the younger grades.

If it’s the former, that’s a huge loss for the kids. This principal is such a bad development for Haycock. Seems like a nice guy but totally inexperienced and really bad at written communication.

Wouldn’t it be both? If a teacher specializes in a subject then the kids grouped would work together in their levels. If one teacher handles the same class for all students, then you get none of that. I wouldn’t care if he’s the nicest guy in the world- if he’s dragging down the school, that’s a real shame. The principal before was great. What happened to her?

Our kids are the same grade. For the PP who asked, specialization starts at Haycock in 1st grade. My DC had separate math class since 1st grade. And it is a power house - the only public elementary competing with middle schools in math counts.

It's not considered best practice for kids in 1st or 2nd. They're too young for it.

Possibly why the new principal is not supporting it.

Let’s say it isn’t best practice for 1dt and 2nd- why drop it for the whole school?

Then why are they changing? That seems crazy.

That's probably because it has a strong AAP center, not because of the rest of the school.
