Either can be fun or functional.
When I design my home, I will include a separate room with just a large bathtub, plenty of room and well placed ledges with handheld showers. Heated towel bars will be installed and the room sound deadened.

You could always do what the Japanese do, and wash first, before getting into a bath to soak. That's the only way I'd co-bathe these days. And the tub would have to be huge.

I like to shower alone. I'm old, and I need that private time. I think, I cry, I silent-scream as I scrub up under the hot water.

I used to shower with my ex-husband when we were young, but a lot of that involved standing in the cold waiting your turn for the water. And it was a turn-off watching him wash his smelly bits. We used to take baths together sometimes, which was fun for five minutes before someone got cold or hit their head on the faucet.

Yes, and there is also a payoff to getting "dirty"...it's called satisfaction or an orgasm. When you take a bath with someone you don't even get clean. You just have to take a shower afterwards.
