Recess is really unsupervised? How do they keep it from turning into Lord of the flies?
They don't. The boys self govern and teachers watch. If the incident gets too out of hand, they will step in. If a hospital visit is required...they do not notify the parents until the end of the day. We enjoyed our time there, the boys love the valley and end of year camping trips...but it was eventually too much.
Too much? What do you mean?
We left a school and found an environment that better suited our needs. Nothing more, nothing less. The Heights is a fine institution if you know exactly what to expect. They will work with your young men and try to make them the best that they can. I enjoyed the lower school teaching the old school way with less technology and more classics and hands on learning.
The student in the injury question was not ours, but no discipline was handed out for something that should have warranted it. When approached with details of bullying, the staff did nothing. So, I have seen just how hands off the teachers are there...and it was not for us. The ice cream social should have been an indication, but we pushed on. For some people, it is a wonderful environment with rich opportunities....for others, not so much.
