This is what was sent to college admissions directors from a post on Collegeconfidential: Basically, the email states that a record number of applications were received, 32,000 for 6,200 available spots. The offer rate has dropped from a historical average of 70% to 56% this year. "The competition was high in every major, resulting in very few second-choice offers being available." Additionally, "Given the higher number of applicants and the lower number of available seats, many students who may have been offered admission in a previous year's cohort were not offered admission this year." There's more in the email, but you get the gist. I'm sort of, kind of, expecting we may see a rejection in our home come Monday evening.

Did you even read the previous post which states that VT's admission rate went DOWN to 56% this year, due to the enormous amount of applications?

They are going heavy to the waitlist then. Their yield is usually ~30%. So to get 6,000 freshman, they need to admit 20,000.

It'll suck especially if VT was their only "safety" school. Not sure what has happened to college admissions at some of these schools but it has been crazy competitive at some of the schools.

It's 56% this year (2018). Here's what was sent to the guidance counselors. You can find this on college confidential. Some people have already received ding notifications. Isn’t this VT’s first year on the common app?

I doubt there will be a 15% drop in acceptance rate. That would be huge. Unless they really improved their algorithms.

This is going to be a huge shock for many of my dd’s friends who think they can spend all of high school taking easy classes and as many electives as possible because they “only” plan on going to VT.

Enlighten me. US news got the acceptance rate wrong? The unreported acceptance rate that nobody knows yet is equal to NC state?
