I would reduce it to a couple of cities or regions and pick some home bases. Think about it as if you were doing a trip here. You could do a weekend in Boston, a day in Cape Cod, three days in NYC, two days in Baltimore, four days in DC, etc., but you would be exhausted and the travel time would eat up so much of your trip. And that's in a place where you know how to get around already.

That is a lot for 3 weeks, and you want to add? Stick with 3 cities tops if you actually want to enjoy your vacation, instead of rushing from place to place...

Berlin isn't a great destination if you want to see Germany. Try Munich instead.

My other piece of advice would be to not take on too much. Also perhaps fly from Berlin to Munich, spend a day there (no more) and then take the train to Florence. it's a lovely train ride and you'll enjoy going through the Alps. Alternatively, you can drive but it will take longer. If you choose to do that, stop by Salzburg, Herrenchiemsee, Berchtesgaden. Google the images, you'll see why I suggest them.

This.

+2. From here, take a TRAIN to Venice. The trip through the German, Austrian and Italian Alps is amazing.

YES!

Skip Berlin and go to Munich and some of the towns in Bavaria instead.

You can't go wrong with anywhere in Italy!

I’ll plug for my favorite region in Europe: Alsace in France. Look up the routes des vins d’alsace and do that.

If you want to have an unforgettable time with your husband, do the Greek isles. Santorini is almost painfully beautiful.

I can help with Berlin, I'm from there. But my best advice is to ask again on Trip Advisor forums. Berlin is a fantastic city, and I'd recommend watching Berlin Babylon on Netflix before you go. Great show, and will get you in the mood. Berlin never sleeps (stiil) and there is much to do and see, both outdoors and historical.

NP here. Agree and in spite of my agreement on going to other forums, I will nonetheless add my two cents. LOL Definitely go to Berlin. Coolest city in Germany. Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, Alexander Platz, Museum Island; and you like Cold War History, go see what reamains of the Wall, see Treptower Park, Checkpoint Charlie, and I don't know, is there a tour of Stasi HQ? Take note of the Aeroflot office near the Brandenburg Gate - was used to spy on our embassy...also take note of the pedestrian lights - they were different in the East, cute little men with hats. https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2013/09/the-little-traffic-light-man-that-could/279968/ It's been ages since I lived there so much has changed. Now there is a Holocaust memorial. You could spend several weeks in each of your destinations, but these would be my top choices in Berlin.
