At least no more Arlington Traditional School. There is nothing unique about it except that it is comprised entirely of students whose parents are involved and motivated enough to enter the lottery. It should have been turned neighborhood school like ASFS rightly was.

Reed needs to be neighborhood. I don’t know that that means stuck has to change to choice. I think people are conflating two issues.

As pointed out by one of the APS planners, ATS and Reed aren't far apart and to put two options schools that close together would leave several neighborhoods without an actual neighborhood school despite having the density to fill one. I don't know what the right answer is for Tuckahoe (who is obviously getting up in arms about this despite nothing from APS about changing their school), but I do know it would be incredibly foolish to place a non-neighborhood school in such a dense location.

From this perspective it's not the best choice. But I don't think relocating a choice program to Tuckahoe is a great idea either, for cost or the success of current option programs. If only they'd built out at Reed instead of putting an addition on McKinley. I mean, I hope they're at least learning a lesson from this and tracking where young families are buying houses right now so that this doesn't sneak up on them again. Oh well. I just want them to evaluate this situation from every perspective before making a decision that can't be undone. Does it make sense from multiple angles?

The parents in S Arl who have given up on the local school and community? The fake liberals who live next to the Poors but do not go to school with them?

These parents should move if the neighborhood school isn't good enough.

Agreed, location is better than Tuckahoe.

However, I'm surprised they slated that site for 725! It seems there is very little space? Are there any design plans out yet? Which part of the site is being considered? Are you razing your beautiful library over this, Westover? No, right?

The BLPC has been working for months. Visit the Reed section of apsva.us/engage. Lots of controversy about which design to go with, but yes, there are plans underway.

You lottery into a special program that has permanent capped enrollment while everyone else is busting at the seams?

Ride the damn bus or in your car for 5 minutes and no you aren’t entitled to a new facility.

Permanent high capped enrollment you mean. Many elementary schools have 19 kids per class in K or even in higher grades. ATS is always 24 per class.
