It's a lie. Because you would never say that to a truly a young person.

99.9999% of the time, you look your age. Even the ones whose had some work done. In that case they still look old but strange.

That’s just a waiter hitting on you. I am 45 and got carded last week. I do look great but I definitely don’t look young enough to be carded.

for your age is not a compliment.. I cringe at the would never have guessed phrase but everyone is different.

If a man says it to a woman, then it is likely a pick-up line.

Yet if said woman is Asian or Black, it probably is true.

It's a tacky comment. If you have to say "for your age", just don't. Why can they just say "you look great"?

When I say this, I mean *that you look young for your age*, because most people your age look older.

People. You have one life to live. Take joy when it's offered.

People usually think my DW is 5-10 years younger than she is. I think it has a lot to do with her personality and energy in addition to her looks. Lucky for me given that most of the women I know who are her age do see a lot older.

When I say this to people, it is what I really think.

I don’t know how anyone could consider this anything but a compliment.

Disagree. I know a few moms that have kids the same age but are much older and don't look it. I have told them so and hopefully they took it as a compliment which is was.

I get a lot of double-takes from bartenders and bouncers, but it might just be that they're more used to checking the ID's of 22-year-olds than 45-year-olds.
