SACC is luck of the draw. Some are good, some bad. My family moved out to Fort Irwin, now back. Ask around, as you see some good, some ok, and some Stephen King type horror and drama. I wish I had family like my friends, to pick up and watch my treasures till my wife and I get home. As Army officers now in an A2 type position we keep long hours. An Au Pair might work out, it’s not too expensive, but they live in the house. If you can handle a stranger in the house I would opt for this over SACC. I think I am done with SACC, it’s like gambling.

I came on here because a PTA mom told me it was a good resource. I live near Mount Vernon, moved from Hollin Hall because we wanted a bigger house and a bigger family. We live across from our church now, like the neighbor better. My family is bi-racial, we moved from Hollin Hall because the kids in our neighborhood and some parents were openly racist to our family. Now at Fort Hunt, my kid is in the Spanish program. She is moderately happy at Fort Hunt.
SACC is the biggest problem. Waynewood, no problem, we as a family loved the SACC, the school wasn’t diverse, but we didn’t have any problems. I consider the SACC at Waynewood friends. My daughter looked forward to going, and after my commute, I liked talking to the SACC staff.
Fort Hunt, is the opposite. While there are good providers there, I agree that the woman in charge is very difficult. Now she doesn’t have to say hello or good bye to me, fine. Her being openly rude makes me feel uneasy as others on this site mention. I tried to bring it up to her, and she said she had no idea what I was talking about. She got very defensive. I said “If I did something wrong, please let me know, I will correct it. I just want to sort this out.” She said she had no idea what I am talking about. Almost like how dare I. She went on leave for 3 weeks, and came back. So I saw the supervisor come in and I thought I would bring my problem to him. We had an ok conversation. He told me that she accused me of calling her a “stupid African.” The supervisor told me she was so shaken that it must be true.
This really upset me. I brought up an issue in a professional way, and this woman that is in charge of Fort Hunt SACC said I called her names. She didn’t like being confronted, nor questioned. How dare a parent bring up a concern! In this day in age with what is going on in this country the woman resorted to a dirty tactic. It is disgusting that she resorted to this. This is the woman charged with the care of our children? She would potentially smear a me because of a concern and essentially call me a racist? After my issues at Hollin Hall, and being a Caucasian, the supervisor already said he believes the care provider.
I feel like it’s an unwinable situation.


You can’t win, you are 100% correct. As parents in The Metro DC area, child care has us over a barrel. A lot of us government and military folks don’t have family in this area. Child care is expensive, and these people don’t make a lot of money. If you don’t like SACC there are other options, but then logistics are a problem. I pick up and drop off, I have to take leave just to make this work. I am a single parent. We were at Orange Hunt. We liked the German program. SACC is ok there. Good luck, I would report this woman at Fort Hunt, especially is she is trying to slander you.

I've called the main number before to report a concern. There are plenty of people who will listen and there are regional supervisors who look into issues.


Which number did you call? I tried to talk to the supervisor and he said that he believes his staff over the parents, that the woman at Fort Hunt has been there over 40 years. I am glad you posted, because I feel lost about this issue at the moment.

I have three kids in SACC in Waynewood. All love it, I heard about Woodley Hills, and it is not good. There are real bad bully problems there.
I had my kids in the summer SACC with that woman MM, she was awful, the worst when it comes to talking to parents, confrontational, and mean spirited. Would it be possible for her to actually greet a parent, or say good bye? Or is it she is too busy gossiping?

I have been reading this thread for a few weeks now. As a Dad, and one in the military, it angers me. I work at the Pentagon, I put my child in Fort Hunt after a lottery to get in. Leaving Waynewood. The SACC at Waynewood are simply the best. Great group. The children and parents really like them.
Now the group at Fort Hunt is way different. Chris is the best one there. I am glad I am not the only one that feels this way about Mulwanni. She is disrespectful. I just got here, and now I am uncomfortable with leaving my son and daughter there. Maybe I should pull them, but then in a non-SACC program. I am tired of that woman’s crap. I am a single dad. My wife died from cancer just a year ago. Now, I have another issue on my mind concerning my children. Thank you Fairfax County SACC, the Miserable Mulwhanii.

As a Working mother in NOVA and running the kids around the issues at SACC at Fort Hunt that bother me. I am part of the PTA, volunteer for a lot of the school events both at Fort Hunt and Carl Sandburg. That lady in charge at Fort Hunt SACC is aloof and distant. She doesn’t even interact with the kids, and when she does it is negative. The kids hate her. The parents hate her. She is a terrible person, she slanders, gossips with the few parents that will talk to her. I saw her not even facing the kids while on the play ground, talking away to a lady that didn’t even have kids at SACC. She is miserable. I hate how the SACC is in the school but the principle is powerless to do anything about it in his own school.

My kids go to Fort Hunt SACC, they were in Waynewood and loved it there. They hate the Fort Hunt SACC. We have had a couple of issues with bullies at Fort Hunt. The main SACC provider has been in the position for 35 years. If you as a parent have an issue with something it is hard to resolve with the senior SACC provider. She is unapproachable, vindictive and just mean. The kids are afraid of her, and so are her coworkers. It’s a terrible situation, she is in charge of my kids safety and what goes on, and that leaves me feeling uneasy. Be careful when putting your kids in SACC, ask the other parents in the area their opinion.

Really? Which SACC is this? There are no electronic devices at our SACC unless it's a special "bring your electronics day" which happens maybe once or twice the whole school year. And they do a great job of offering a variety of things for the kids to do so they aren't bored. Sports, arts & crafts or performing arts. My kids have a great time at SACC and are always disappointed when I pick them up early.



I wish this was the case at all SACC centers. Last year, our SACC center purchased fancy tablets. When the weather is nice, I would find my children in the playground when I went to pick them up. Now, my children rarely go outside because when the kids are outside playing is when they can have a turn on the tablets. Tried to chat with the SACC staff but didn't get much of a response other than they would take my concerns into consideration and encourage my children to go outside. I understand about the tablets for teacher work days when or early release when there are more hours to entertain the kids. However, for after school care, I don't like the tablets.
