Don't worry about the 4 year old. Unlikely he will ask any questions and even he does a 4 year olds questions don't come with judgment.

So my two cents? Since this transition is so recent, the family is also probably still figuring out how they present themselves to others. They may still be a little bit awkward about this themselves. They may not have figured out how (or if) they want to discuss it, or if it's something they prefer to keep private.

But I bet that if they are nice people, they will be just fine as long as you are respectful and good guests -- and vice versa; as long as they are respectful of you, and good hosts, you will also be fine. I would not worry too much about saying the "wrong thing". Just be yourself.
