My in-laws do things for my family and never charge us. Heck, my MIL is even putting me through school right now!

Do I have the right to hate my parents’ for this? When I was employed, wrote $1000 for for father’s dental work. I reminded them of that. I hate that they are nickel and diming me for gas money and $45 spare parts!

Thanks for letting me vent.

If your husband broke something he should handle getting it fixed ASAP.
Only if you both were extremely busy or had other situations to deal with, would I run errands and repairs for youZ

Assume your parents will continue to ask for money for the things they do and go from there if it’s worth it you. You lucked out in the in-law department so count your blessings there rather than focusing on what your parents won’t do.

You gave them $60 to fix the mower, the bill was $45. If they kept the other $15, that's more than enough to cover gas $, unless they're driving an RV.

Just because you lucked out on a MIL who is very generous with money does not mean you turn into an ungrateful daughter to your parents.

Yes it was unexpected, a little petty, but come on, hate them? This post can’t be real. You sound really entitled and naive. Don’t you realize people are all different on when or what to be generous on?

Strictly speaking they still did you a favor by saving you time. Would you have liked to use gas and time going back and forth to take care of this errand?

Let your in laws fix your lawn mower.

MIL actually offered her repairman but I thought my side of the family could actually contribute.

Anonymous wrote:If you only paid $105 ($60 for supplies plus $45 for gas) then you would have gotten a deal. As it is, because you wouldn't reimburse the gas money, you basically achieved highway robbery. It sounds like your parents made 2 round trips to your house, once to get the lawn mower and once to bring it back. If your parents don't have much money then it is highly probable that $45 in gas is needed and you should be ashamed of yourself for not giving it to them.

I have to tell you that your tone in your post grates on me and, in my opinion, it makes you sound entitled and bratty. I think that in the future you should not burden your parents with your home repair and mechanical problems.

+1, hope to god my daughter doesn’t end up like this. Not that I plan on needing the money, but the mentality is a little sickening.

DH’s parents would not have done this. MIL pays for our cleaning lady, pays for my tuition... we never asked her but she treats me like her own.

It sounds like the problem is with you still having the mentality of a child and expecting people older than you to foot the bill. Get your own cleaning lady OP. And go pay a professional to fix and deliver your mower next time so you you can pay them 200$ and not whine about 45 dollars to help your parents.
