We got a drink ticket at the work holiday lunch this year. That is literally the ONLY time that has happened in my working life.

I have friends who have office space set aside for drinking scotch.

So the answer is, it depends where you work.

Rarely but only on a very special business social occasion. On a regular business lunch, no way.

I don't see the problem unless you can't hold your liquor.

I get sleepy with anything, so I would pass. No judgement at all for coworkers who have a drink with a meal at lunch on occasion! It's normal.

This thread is bound to be exhibit A of precisely why so many of us transplants lament the culture here in DC.

DC is where all the hall monitors come to live when they get out of school. The sentiments here are not universal.

I’m a lawyer in DC and I don’t think anyone would judge. So long as your work doesn’t suffer. Drinking is still big at most law firms.

I definitelt do it on occasion (some of my coworkers will have beer on Fridays in the office too) but alcohol makes me SO tired that I can barely stay awake the rest of the day.

There’s no right answer. Most people won’t care. Some people will think you’re an alcoholic. Others will think you lack seriousnesss when it comes to work. So decide for yourself how you feel about the people who will take a dim view of it, and the possible fallout from that, and then make a choice you’re comfortable with.

I don't. I am impaired after one drink and do not like working while impaired.

Nobody knows. I know this could get me fired but I know they won't do it. I'm their best salesman.

Why would you bother.
Everyone is replaceable.
