Kazan is decent. The Italian is awful in McLean. J Gilberts is consistently good but not great. Nostos is awesome and worth the short drive to Tysons.

You can stay in McLean for Italian. Authentic and expensive: Assagi Osteria; Traditional red sauce family restaurant and money left over: Pulcinella.

Assagi Osteria is NOT expensive.

I agreed with the OP. I wouldn't go to tyson corner, too crowd and food is not that good either. I guess since OP lives in Mclean so the couple is not poor. You definitely need to check out this place L'Auberge Chez Francois in Great Falls. I've been there 8 times in the past 10 years. My wife and I went there for dinner and the bill is usually around $400 for a couple with some wine.

Second the recommendation for Nostos. Or do Clarity. It seriously can’t be prohibitively further than somewhere in McLean.

The clientele is around 70. The food is from 1970s. Not necessarily bad, but you need to adjust expectations accordingly. It's like dining on the set of a mafia movie.

I posted the Bonaroti recommendation and your response is pretty much accurate......your Mafia comment reminds me of Sollozo telling Michael to try the veal at Louie's in the Bronx....."it's the best in the city"

Kazan in central Mclean at the giant shopping center. Turkish food. Have been going there for many years. Consistently good, not too formal but still nice for a date night
