Subject: Toyota Rav4 v Subaru Crosstrek?
OP, are you me?! I just went through deciding between the hybrid RAV4 and crosstrek. I got the crosstrek.
I liked that the rav4 was a hybrid, but at the end of the day the gas mileage isn’t that different from the 2018 crosstrek. The 2018 crosstrek interior is much better than the 2017 - it’s more like the Impreza on the inside. For me, the cargo space was enough and the RAV4 ultimately seemed TOO big! We have a toddler and lifting him up to the RAV4 seemed like it’d be hard. The crosstrek was more than enough clearance - much higher than the Impreza, but easier to get the kiddo in and out. Both have a lot of great safety features.

I love Japanese cars. There was an excessive oil consumption issue with some Subarus a year or two back. Google that before you buy a Subaru. May be OK now.

We looked at the RAV 4 and got a Subaru Forester. I consider those comparable, the Crosstrek is smaller and I wouldn't expect it to compare well to the RAV 4. We picked the Subaru based on crash tests and also disliked the spare tire placement on the Toyota.

What about the Forester? I feel like the Forester is a better comparison to the RAV-4 in terms of size and use.

I have a 2017 RAV-4 (had it over a year now) and it is absolutely fantastic. There is SO much cargo space and it is beyond comfortable to drive. I think I might always have a RAV.

I like the Crosstrek styling better, however it has a very small trunk.
RAV4 has bigger trunk, plus hybrid AWD. My DW is lusting for this car!
