Why are people grilling OP about her kid's individual AP scores? Weird.

I will say that when we visited Pitt this year, they seemed to have a pretty firm 1490/33 cutoff (with a solid A average) for merit aid consideration, but I hope they make an exception for OP's kid! The honors college invitation seems like a good sign.

OP, I am the one that asked about the 16. Good for her. It sounds like your daughter has worked her off. I hope she is happy and can enjoy the rest of her Senior year. My Junior is VERY interested in Pitt. It is popular at her private.

Congrats! The daughter of a family friend is in UPitt Honors and she has been thrilled with her time there! So happy and couldn’t imagine herself anywhere else.

Also, regarding how this is possible: their school is 7-12. So it's basically JR HS and SR HS in one building. Before they leave their middle school there are placement meetings for each kid by committee. They evaluate state standardized tests, ERBs, and grades they 6th and based on these they are either in "Regents" or "Accelerated". Regents track is the normal track (that you and I were probably on back in the day) Fully accelerate is accelerated in Math/Sci and ENG/SS. Some kids are partially accelerated either Math/sci or ENG/SS.

My kids are fully accelerated. So, by 9th grade they are taking what the 10th grade Regents kids are taking. So they accelerate 7/8th to get ahead a year by 9th. As a result, My kid could take AP Human Geo and AP Psych in 9th, preAP World. In 10th: AP World, AP music theory, AP comp sci….and it goes on and on

16 AP’s?? Good God. The earliest you can take them in my DD’s college prep private is Junior and only 2. Curious how this is possible.

her stats: NY suburban public. Ranked 2/248. 105.38 average through q1 senior year. 16 APs. Strong Arts and Athletic ECs...

That is great news. We toured Pitt, and my son applied. We really liked it. I was very impressed with the engineering school.

Many of us local alums don't participate in that stuff but we are here, grew up here and came back home after graduating. It was very popular when I went.

And more so now. You can get involved and meet with prospective students or act as a mentor.
