Same for my third grader though I would probably say "appropriate" rather than easy.

Grade level is a range it’s from 500 to 550. Again this is target for iready assesment in spring. My child’s score was 575. It’s the composite score for reading.
Her Math iready was 427 whereas on level expected by spring assessment is 450 to 500.

I would like to add that AAP is about potential so these score should not matter heavily. Kids can under perform. My child has almost not done any regular homework or studying since last spring. These scores are impressive for that. Plus my child was often sick last year one of the reasons not prepping for the NNAT. She is doing a little better this year.

I feel a bit better now, since my kid had a respectable 567 in reading. Math score was very high, so there are no worries there. I disagree that the score shouldn't matter much, though. As AAP is currently set up, both the kids with high potential and the kids who currently have high achievement should be included. I would hope that very high scores would help a child's case for AAP. Or at least, I hope the reasonably high achievement score will compensate for the mediocre CogAT Verbal score.

Are you at all worried that she won't be able to keep up with AAP math?

Now I wish we had prepped.

did you prep. what were the scores?

Did not prep. NNAT was 128. CogAT was 130.

I expected it that you may not have prepped. My DD got 120 for NNAT there is heavy prepping in my DDs School. I woke up and prepped for cogat and my DD is in pool. Haven’t received scores yet and still nervous what the score might be. Also as the othe comment or said I think your child will be in with a good GBRS and paren referral.

Iready was at grade level for language arts and above for math. In class Assessments are always 100% or close to it. Report cards are a mix of 3's & 4's. I parent referred because scores were honestly not great. I have no doubt that DC can keep up. Likely will not be in, though.

Your child will probably be placed in advanced math, which is exactly the same as the AAP math.

Those scores + a high GBRS (which it sounds like she will have) should lead to acceptance into AAP.

Anonymous wrote:This is just idle curiosity on my part, but if you're in pool or applying for AAP, how has your child done with the school given achievement tests? Was the child across the board above grade level in iready? Did that kid max out the DRA testing at the end of 1st grade? On the child's report card, is the language arts listed as "above" grade level? Is that child in the advanced math class/group?

If your child isn't above grade level on all of those metrics, are you worried that (s)he will struggle to keep up in AAP?

My DD used to finish 70 page book in one sitting I remember the book was -big max by Kin Platt when she was 3 and a half. Also she was able to appreciate the funny jokes in the books. In grade II where they are expected to be at grade level by end of spring she is above grade level on Iready. First grade end of year DRA was at 24. She is already in level II. She gets distracted easily now and has so many things that she is interested in. She needs help so she spends sometime doing math. She thoroughly enjoys reading.
Math she is on level with algebraic thinking and geometry but still needs a better hang of numbers and arithmetic and is below grade level at last assesment for this one aspect. She did not feel challenged at all since pre-k, K and first grade. I actually have no idea about how advanced the math will be in AAP. So I worry if its going to be hard. In math she is already mastered addition and subtraction of three digit numbers with regrouping and can solve word problems involving multiplication and division and basic fractions. She is already receiving level II services.

I am sorry, I must have misread this, how does the above child need "a better hang of numbers and arithmetic" and was below grade level at the last assessment, but has "mastered addition and subtraction of 3 digit numbers with regrouping and can solve word problems involving multiplication and division and basic fractions.
That makes no sense....it sounds like this child is currently in 2nd grade (and receiving pull out services) in which case if she knows all the above reported information she should not be testing below level in anything.

I agree. I was surprised myself so based on the report I had her work on arithmetic as a result DD is already knows and works with the said three digit regrouping addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and basic fractions and related word problems. BTW approaching grade level is as per schedule for fall. They are expected to be at grade level by spring. She has level II services pull outs for reading and math after first grade.
