Actually not the case for me. I’ve eliminated tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, corn and legumes. I didn’t eat much processed food before so it’s not that I’m replacing processed foods with vegetables. That’s why this is really interesting to me. -PP who has been trying Plant Paradox for a few months

This is interesting.

On the contrary, there is a lot of evidence that not eating some of the foods you are supposed to cut, like tomatoes, beans, etc., means you are cutting out a lot of benefits too.

The lectin theory doesn't really hold up. The properties that Gundry is concerned about in legumes disappear when cooked. So cook your beans...but doesn't seem to be an argument for cutting them.

My bet is this will be a fad. I'm doing my best to limit/cut out processed foods, added sugars, and gluten, and all dairy except for full fat organic yogurt. I'm managing my stress, getting plenty of sleep, and doing exercise that helps my mental and physical health which for me is yoga and walking. I don't believe cutting beans or tomatoes will get me where I want to be. But I'll be watching to see if there is additional evidence or more studies.

Thanks. I'm the PP who resurrected this thread. I have two autoimmune diseases and this book was recommended to me by a person who had great success on the diet. I'm willing to try anything that could work. He does say that beans and things like rice, quinoa etc are ok if they've been pressure cooked. The thing I'm most concerned about is convenience and what to do when I'm out of the house and in social situations.

I had a rare, somewhat severe (severely painful) autoimmune disease that I sent into remission through eating non processed food for a year. I was in EXCRUCIATING PAIN daily and went to totally painless by following a strict clean diet, no alcohol. Now I can eat whatever I want, a few years later.

That's interesting. I've actually broken out into hives/a rash when I've eaten things that aren't Plant Paradox compliant. My body definitely has a reaction to lectins now. -PP

I have "given" myself autoimmune issues basically. Just thinking about a pepper or a cucumber is making me sick, and if I eat them I throw up. However, it turned out that those were not my main problems, it is dairy and wheat. Given that you cut those out yourself, it would be great if you update us, as even my gastro is saying it is not likely I am allergic to peppers and other shades, but he also says that since I throw up if I eat any of them raw, I should cut them out, as that is common sense. So, if you remember to update, it would be much appreciated.

Sure, I'll update. I'm on day 2 of the 3 day cleanse right now and I feel pretty crappy, actually. Bad fatigue, headache and more brain fog than usual. Apparently this is normal, and hopefully it will get better soon. I've been primarily eating foods filled with lectins all summer so I guess this is a big difference to my system. I'm not at all organized or planned for this diet as I probably should have been, so that probably wasn't smart but all of a sudden yesterday I was motivated to start when I woke up and I have been in a pattern where I'll tell myself I'll start tomorrow and then don't actually do it so I wanted to capitalize on my motivation.

I'm back with an update. I really have been feeling much better since following Plant Paradox. My energy level has improved, my joint pain has virtually disappeared and I have lost about 5 or 6 pounds. I couldn't lose 5 or 6 pounds when I was counting calories carefully and now I don't count at all. I have also felt much less bloated and stomach pains have disappeared. I haven't seen much difference with brain fog, but apparently that can take a long time to resolve.

That being said, this week I got pretty lazy and wasn't as compliant as I have been. I now feel bloated, have hip and knee pain, and my stomach pain has returned. This is something I really do need to stick with. I don't do any of the supplements and I would say I'm around 95% compliant typically. Sometimes there are social events or restaurant meals where I can't be completely compliant, but there has to be balance and I still have to have a life.

Yay, OP! Don't worry too much about one week. Just get back on track and remember how this feels when you get tempted again.

I’m back again with another update. I got back on track after I posted this but then I went on vacation for a few days and couldn’t be completely compliant. I definitely felt it but got right back on track when I got home. Someone who also does it told me “I can eat whatever I want. It’s just that I only want food that makes me feel good.” I’m definitely in that mindset now. Even though something might feel tempting, it’s not worth the discomfort it causes. But I don’t feel deprived, I just feel like staying on this path will be preferable to eating lectins and then feeling crappy. I’ve also lost a few more pounds since I posted a few weeks ago, which is virtually unheard of for me. I’ve been eating more resistant starch than recommended (plantain chips, sweet potatoes) but they help me feel satisfied and are substitutes for things I used to eat that are inflammatory.

Interesting. Keep updating us and letting us know how it’s going!
