You really don't get out too much do you? Here's what happens in the real world.

There's much more than just these two recent examples. Statistics show crime near light rail is high across the country. Tbat is why this story is news worthy. The PL is coming from a gang infested areas and will bring with it crime and gang activity.

Why are you picking this story instead of the many MURDERS perpetrated by the gang?
Can you understand that a story where the victim is physically unharmed is less newsworthy than a story where the victim is beheaded and buried in Wheaton Regional park?
This story IS noteworthy. So is the Wheaton one. The local TV news stations are covering this story. The local papers that have endorsed the PL have not. The PL will be a main artery connecting gang ridden high crime areas to a low crime non gang infested one. This was a Purple Line worker who fortunately escaped with his life. Procedures were changed. Newsworthy for many reasons and also forshadowing what to expect in new Bethesda. I am very concerned with attempts to bury this story. It does not fit the PL narrative that the politicians want people to believe.

Anonymous wrote:No mention of this in Bethesda Magazine or the WaPo. We can only guess why. This happened way back in October and the story was ignored until DC news stations picked it up. Even now with DC media coverage, crickets from our local news. Bad publicity for their pet project. Anyone who says Bethesda violent crime will not go up when this thing is finished has their head in the clouds. One of the teen gang members has since been murdered. This is frightening.

Using these dastardly devices, gang members can actually DRIVE anywhere they want to go! Isn't that awful?! And apparently these automobile thingies are not absurdly expensive, like even a poor can get one. Yeah, I know, President Trump needs to get on this.
There are also buses.
What are ms-13's activities in moco? Why would they want to travel west?
They want to use their ill gotten gains on the better shopping and restaurants to be found in Bethesda. And they need the PL because while they can manage to get cars, they don't like dealing with parking in downtown Bethesda.
Oh, and the replacement of the old gravel trail with a new paved trail will also bring more MS 13 to Bethesda. Unlike many other hispanics in the region, they do not ride mountain bikes, only narrow tired road bikes. Have you never heard of the Tour de Plunder?

Well, CASA Montgomery claims that gang members are only out to hurt other people from El Salvador or Honduras Et al and not the general population.
Their viewpoint is apparently that their own people’s lives don’t matter (how horrifying) and the gang violence doesn’t affect them so we should not be concerned.
More likely they believe that if their own people cannot move here, they will still be victims of these gangs in El Salvador, etc. Therefore they support policies to reduce crime, but not policies to keep anyone from migrating here from those countries.
It’s not working for everyone to all move to one place.

It’s not working for everyone to all move to one place. These jerks are threatening to kill and maim their relatives back home too. If they are doing it here you know they’re doing it x1000 back home.
It is a short sighted terrible policy to relocate large numbers of refugees from these areas, or any areas really, all in one place.
These small time politicians from Montgomery county made a huge mistake and they aren’t even intelligent enough to own up to it and fix it. Not that I think they are capable of fixing it (not a chance).
It has and will continue to cause much suffering.

I've lived in Silver Spring, now Bethesda, and support the Purple Line, because you know what? The area is growing whether we like it or not and more transportation is just necessary. It won't lighten congestion on the roads because there will be that many more people on the Line AND on the road. So it's essential to avoid clogging the roads.
MS-13 has been entrenched in the area for many years now, and WaPo and other news outlets in our area have done long features on it. You are delusional if you think that we're not taking this gang seriously or reporting on it. It will have no effect on transportation plans, however, because we need those plans more than anything else. And to think that this gang will somehow develop more with added transport is insane. Gangs are smothered by shutting off their financial sources, and since this gang is international, it will take some time.
