Uh Emory is #20 in the nation.

If you don't get it you don't get it.

I heard Ralph Lauren sent his slacker kids there too. It was in some book about how Duke used to (?) be the best at getting millions out of rich people with Z list high school kids.

Apple CEO Tim Cook did his graduate at Duke and Melinda Gates also graduated from Duke. I would go there if I can afford it.

I think all the top 20 universities are massively over-hyped. Deserving of their position, absolutely, but leagues above everyone else for undergrad? Not really.

Duke has a massive following amongst a very particular set of wealthy preppy kids. I get why Notre Dame has their following (Catholic, football, national TV contract) and I get the Ivy League has their traditions and 100+ years of waspy vibes ... but Duke rivals all of them without Catholicism or an Ivy membership.

Not sure why all the haters but Duke obviously stirs up strong feelings . . . Duke is an excellent school with a strong undergraduate focus that allows for lots of individualized programs. It has been a rising institution for many years, strong faculty, lovely campus, though as others have noted, it is spread out and the Freshman live on one part of the campus that is quite isolated. The basketball program obviously helps and it would be a place best suited for students who care about sports. Strong fraternity culture but not essential to social life. Durham is also a pretty hip town these days. Probably not a school for everyone but a top school to be sure.

Kind of misleading statement. Most smart rich preppy kids from the coasts do not have Duke as their first or even second choice. Still it is true that Duke is on the college list of many of these kids, usually below a number of ivies, Stanford.

Not just the coasts. I went to a Midwest day school full of millionaire kids who were obsessed with Duke.
