Yes to this. A middle schooler can still get help with this. A teenager does not. Show him where the Tide is, and where the dry cleaner is, and move along.

Buying him a replacement sweater is enabling behavior. If he’s old enough to have a girlfriend he’s old enough to do his own laundry. He’s also old enough to clean up his own room (if you’re curious.) Infantilizing your child does not help them.

One was wonderful (home from college and sweet as can be) and the other was his usual grumpy self (teenage boy - ugh!). However, the teenage boy completely livened up when we pulled out a game of Monopoly for the first time in a long time. Wish we'd done it sooner, lol!!

If he's old enough to have a gf give him a Versace sweater he's old enough to read a label and not throw it in the laundry. Don't buy him a new one. And let him do his own laundry to avoid any issues in the future.

She should buy back the ruined sweater, and have him do him laundry going forward. OP did ruin the sweater so she should replace it if she can afford to replace it.

The person doing the laundry has the ultimate responsibility for not ruining clothing.

Nope. Mine is being her usual lovely self. She is super excited about a trip we are leaving for in a couple of days.

Mine was making us all miserable Friday night with what became a huge tantrum. I immediately realized the stress of the semester and heading out on a family holiday the next day were causing the cave in and I was able to let it go freely and let the Joy of the Season carry me along. Now he's fine and getting along with everyone and being quite pleasant with his cousins and I am glad I let it go and didn't get caught up in his teen angst drama.

Yep. He is old enough to check his pockets before washing and he is old enough to read care instructions. Really he is old enough to be doing his own laundry.

I personally think things get damaged. Things get lost. So as a teen, he has to learn to deal with facts of life. An apology should be made by the parent but a replacement is not always guaranteed. If the sweater came from a Versace in France special edition, would you fly there to get it?

Sometimes it might go back to normal after taking it to the dry cleaner. Worth a try.

DCs have mostly been a dream this year, but we still have to get through New Years.
