Do not buy him another sweater.
If he's old enough to have a gf give him a Versace sweater he's old enough to read a label and not throw it in the laundry. Don't buy him a new one. And let him do his own laundry to avoid any issues in the future.
She should buy back the ruined sweater, and have him do him laundry going forward. OP did ruin the sweater so she should replace it if she can afford to replace it.
