Once I was talking to my therapist about what a pig sty by BF's car always was and he said "That's what the inside of his mind is like too."

In case I get caught in a snowstorm. The odd goldfish, scraps of jerky etc may be the difference between life and death,

That car looks like my butt. Not proud. I blame myself.

As a neat freak, this is so disgusting to see.

About 10 years ago, my car looked like this. I was in my late 20s and getting sober. I was completely overwhelmed and embarrassed of it but couldn’t bring myself to clean it. I wish I had an answer of why. Now my car is pretty much the complete opposite. I have 3 kids and it’s pretty spotless. I dust at stoplights when I’m bored. Lol.

Probably this. With the way the economy has tanked and the number of people losing their jobs now, more and more people are living in their cars than ever. They have nothing else. It's awful.

My car isn’t that bad, but I keep a lot of unnecessary crap in it. It’s the one place in the world that I can keep messy. My house is clean. Where I work is clean. I just need a little space to be a pack rat.

Shrug. My car is definitely filthy. It’s a combo of kids, exhaustion and health issues.

But my house is clean. I can’t stand clutter and mess in my home. I view my car in a more utilitarian way. Gets me from point A to point B, don’t really care how it looks.

Same! I definitley have crushed goldfish in my backseat and a few water bottles on the floor though.

I'm PP. My car has towels folded/ crushed in the back seat (dog), plastic bags tucked into the side (dog), umbrella/ dog jacket/ CD holder/ receipts/ water bottle/ ice scraper etc in front passenger side foot well.

With two kids my back seat is atrocious and front seat tends to fill with bags. I try to keep on top of it but it's just Another Thing to attend to.

Health problems and exhaustion. Depression from the health problems and exhaustion.

If you aren't offering to help fix the problem, and it's not your car, why do you care OP? If it's some one you know, you could offer to help them or clean as a favor. I would take you up on it.

On the plus side, mine was one of the few cars not targeted by thieves during a stealing sweep lately, so there is that.
