I have an Aunt Flora, and I love that name! I'm not sure about Florence, but the nickname Ren is adorable.

I love the name, and it's so fast to pronounce that I doubt people will need to use nicknames.

Now, you should be aware that the name is probably much more popular in Europe and in Asia than here back home -- may sound to "euro centric" to the crazy lefties who have never left home.

I don't like it. It's a name that is strongly associated with an older generation. I don't love Flora either, but it's better than Florence.

I like Flora better. Florence is OK in my book, though, but I do think of Florence Henderson.

I like Florence. If you don't like the most common nicknames, though, you might find yourself fighting a losing battle. Flora is pretty but since it's the same number of syllables, it's unlikely to be a nickname.

Winnifred/Winnie is cute! You need a name of equal cuteness. May I suggest the name : Theodora with the nickname teddy or Thea. Florence is an okay name but doesn’t match the sweetness of your other child’s name.

Well, I teach 6th grade and have a 6th grade daughter...so yeah, I think I have somewhat of an idea of "how kids are." It's sad that you're in a place where you assume the worst behavior in kids.

My niece is a Florence. Middle name is a family name. It's pretty much 50/50 a love it or hate it name, but IRL she gets a lot of compliments on it. My niece goes by lots of nicknames. Different people call her different things (though not Ren), including Flora, Flossie, and variations on Flo.

NP - this seems like a silly thing to worry about. As this thread shows, there are a ton of nickname options for Florence. Unless her parents insist on calling her Flo, she could just go by any other nickname if/when she decides she doesn't like it. Flo to Flossie or Florrie or Flora is not a huge leap.
