We are living in a different world, my friend. No comparison to when you were in MS and HS back in the dark ages.
Yup. My American son goes to a Math center to get ahead in math and take private foreign language classes. These two learning centers are full of bright Asian children. He is THE ONLY American child in thr Math classes and one of 2 American children in early language and most of those kids are working on their 3rd language. Many Americans are being left in the dust as these kids blow past them.

Big change in high school...

My issue is that she has so much free time in the afternoon with nothing to do. We purposely held back on committing to too many activities as we thought she’d need more time to focus on school but it’s been quite the opposite. Need to find her some afternoon activities so she’s not on her phone constantly or nagging me!

Anonymous wrote:My 6th grader at Williamsburg has pretty regular homework in American Studies and Math. She is able to get some of it completed in school due to block scheduling extra time. She has very regular tests in her 4 core classes so I feel like we are constantly studying for those rather than doing busy work homework. She has had 4 tests in the last 3 days with another one this Friday.

Anonymous wrote:I have a 7th grader at Swanson. Last year in 6th, he consistently had math homework (Math 7 for 6ht graders) each night, but could finish it very quickly. Not many tests either. 7th grade has ramped up the work in a big way - multiple tests and quizzes each week, and homework each night in Alg 1 and Latin 1. Next week he has 3 projects due. So enjoy it while it lasts!

I love that he has none. There was too much in elementary school.
