Subject: Philadephia or someplace else for a fun night or two away with kids?
Just did a weekend in Philly with a 7 yo. He liked Reading Terminal and the Liberty Bell/Independence Hall
We stayed at the Inn at Penn. The fantastic campus bookstore is next door.

We liked the restaurant Vedge. We are in no way vegetarian but it was fun to try all these new things.

We love cities with our younger kids. Way easier to find necessities , good restaurants, and spend time indoors and out. Pick a hotel with an indoor pool and you're all set!

We live in Philly. A couple other things to do: the Arden Theater is playing Peter Pan at this time and tickets are easy to get and affordable. Also ice skating by City Hall. It's a nice time to visit!

Check out the Penn Museum, too. You rarely hear about it, but it has some amazing ancient art. My kid loved the Egypt section.

Agree! They're too old for Please Touch Museum.
Your 11yo is definitely too old for Please Touch. Franklin is perfect for that age. I have a 5 and 7 yo and they both liked the Please Touch Museum but my older one also liked Franklin. The little one was bored but I think at your kids' ages, both would like Franklin Institute. The zoo was also fun, if the weather is nice.

Do people really think this way? Big cities can be magical for kids.

Go into the Italian Market for some legit Italian food. And get a cheesesteak from Pat's one day - bring cash.
+1 on Embassy Suites, and we've also stayed at the Radisson Rittenhouse, which has interesting nightlife nearby and a greasy spoon but tasty Deli/diner right across the street (Pete's, I think) - also cash only.
For me, the must-dos with kids are: Franklin Institute; the historic area - Liberty Bell, Constitution Hall and the Constitution museum which is well done. Haven't done Betsy Ross house - guess we're saving that for next time.
Mine really enjoyed visiting the US Mint on a weekday when it's in operation. We also took a spin around UPenn so my teen could get a sense of what that campus is like.
Enjoy - Philly has a lot going for it.

Try one of the Stephen Starr restaurants like the Continental Midtown. Fun for kids and adults.
